About

House Of Hope NH

Our Story

In 2015, Bill & Phyllis began seeing an overwhelming need in the Monadnock Region for recovery for women who are trapped by the horrors of substance abuse, and for their children who are being raised in this destructive environment. The need for an avenue of recovery for these women began to grow as drug use escalated. The effects of this destructive epidemic strikes all income, educational and age levels. Many area families are experiencing hardships and loss.

As a graduate of the New Life Home in Manchester, NH 32 years ago, Phyllis knew that the Monadnock Region needs a home like the one she graduated from in 1984. Bill and Phyllis are working on bringing Hope to the Monadnock Region by bringing a 6-8 month faith based program to this area.

House Of Hope NH exists to provide rehabilitation, restoration and reunification to women and mothers struggling with substance abuse and life controlling issues. This is accomplished through a long-term, residential, faith-based program.

Our program uses a holistic approach, dealing not only with the obvious dependency issues, but also helping with self-esteem, life skills and a rewarding future for the body, mind and spirit.

House Of Hope NH relies solely on donations and grants. We receive no federal or state funding.

We trust God to provide our financial and material needs to help women and their children who need help living productive, dependency-free, self-supporting lives.

Bill Phelps, Co-Founding Director of House Of Hope NH

July 27th, 2009 in Keene, New Hampshire, Bill Phelps had been in a bad accident. “We don’t know if he’s gonna make it”, the woman told Phyllis on the phone.

The woman, who Phyllis knew, had seen it happen. Bill was going through an intersection on his motorcycle when a van ran a red light. Swerving to avoid a collision, he lost control and was thrown 40 feet across the pavement. He wasn’t wearing a helmet. Phyllis says, “It was so many emotions at one time that hit me. My first instinct is always to pray.”

When Phyllis arrived at the local hospital, the staff was prepping Bill for a medivac flight to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. She says, “My prayer was, ‘Oh God, just let him live.’ Bill was out and I just touched his foot and I prayed to the Lord. And I felt like the Holy Spirit, not in an audible voice, but just said, ‘Believe for life.’

Today Bill and Phyllis believe that it was the power of prayer that brought him back to the life he loves. Bill states, “God’s a miracle worker. He’s still in the miracle working business, I am one.” Phyllis says, “Jesus Christ is faithful. No matter what you face, don’t turn from God, run to Him. He’s worthy to put your trust in. He doesn’t want you to walk through this life alone. Whatever injuries you sustain in life, you need Jesus Christ. That’s the answer.”

Weathering The Storm

From tragedy to triumph…but it was never easy. Nothing ever was for Phyllis Phelps. Hurt, abuse, and heartache led to a lifestyle of desperate addiction and empty relationships that would’ve surely destroyed her. Yet when she received help and discovered the life-changing power of God, her journey toward healing was only beginning—and would include many more challenges that severely tested her faith and threatened those she loved.

Today, Phyllis has weathered the storm and found a steady anchor in God and His love. Even more, she is now helping others wounded by neglect and addiction so that they, too, can break through their pain and find renewed life and purpose through Him.

Phyllis Phelps, Founding Director of House Of Hope NH, tells her story of God’s eternal love for her and how her Faith has brought restoration and new lives to others through her Faith-Based program.
